by Brittany Morris, Commerce City Economic Development Director
Welcome to another exciting edition of the Commerce Connection. We have had one busy month here at Commerce City Economic Development!
We received some incredible news late-February regarding our population growth. We always knew that Commerce City was one of the fastest growing in the state and according to data released in February by the US Census Bureau, we are officially rated the 4th fastest growing city in Colorado! Our estimated population is 45,913 which means we more than doubled in population from the year 2000 to the year 2010. Use the link below for more information on this very good news!
City Council also hosted its annual retreat late-February with city management and staff. The number one priority identified by City Council at the retreat, and the number one priority expressed by those community members who took the time to provide City Council feedback and input prior to the retreat, was economic development. We are extremely pleased and honored that we are at the forefront of the city's agenda!
One area of interest that was discussed with City Council at the retreat was finding ways to get area residents and businesses involved in economic development and as such we are taking the initial steps to forming a Commerce City Economic Development Citizen Advisory Committee (ED-CAC) and a Commerce City Economic Development Business Advisory Committee (ED-BAC). Please visit our website for more information on how you can apply to be a part of these groups.
Thank you again for taking the time to remain engaged in the happenings of Commerce City Economic Development. Talk to you next month!
