Will we ever see Development @ the Prairie Gateway site in Commerce City, CO??? It has been years since the Commerce City Civic Center and Rapids stadium have been built and still no economic development. I guess patience is really a virtue.

Commerce City Finance Department hosts annual sales-and-use tax seminar

COMMERCE CITY – In an effort to keep Commerce City business owners up to date on changes to the city tax codes, the city’s finance-tax division will be conducting a half-day seminar on Tuesday, Nov. 9. The seminar will be in the Civic Center’s Council Chambers and start at 9 a.m.

The seminar is for businesses, as well as tax professionals who work with them. Finance Director Roger Tinklenberg strongly encourages businesses attend the annual sale- and-use tax seminar.

“It’s worth their time now to prevent headaches later on,” Tinklenberg said. “Council has recently made changes to the tax code that are designed to bring into focus requirements of some areas that may have been unclear in the past. The goal of this seminar is to reach the business community and increase their awareness and understanding of the current tax code and how it affects their business.”

Topics covered in the three-hour seminar include:
• When to charge sales tax?
• What are the implications of special charges and fees associated with sales tax?
• What is exempt from, and how should I document sales tax?
• What about use tax? How is it calculated and when is it due?

These and many more will be addressed in an interactive session presented by the city. Following the presentation, city tax representatives will be available to answer questions and provide guidance on how to more efficiently and effectively prepare business tax documents and other forms.

RSVPs are encouraged and are being accepted at 303-289-3628.
