The Commerce City Economic Development Division is spearheading "Operation Food Network" to encourage citizens across the northern part of the city to tell us your personal stories about the difficulties of not having a nearby grocery store.
We understand that the addition of a grocery store means more than just better access to goods and services for the residents in the northern area; it is one of the most important issues facing residents and city officials.
Having a grocery store will help attract more residents and more retail to this part of our city. Grocery stores can also be social places where we meet friends, catch up on the latest community news, build relationships and network with others.
More importantly, grocery stores also create employment opportunities for our residents.
While we already have the quantitative data to support the attraction of a grocery store - including the fact that $59 million of annual grocery sales are "leaking" into our neighboring cities every year - we are in need of qualitative data to strengthen our "sell." This human side of the story needs to be shared with prospective grocers. So, if you’re living north of 96th Avenue, we are very interested in hearing from you.
